He was asked about the disbelievers: Will they be judged on the Day of Resurrection or not? He answered: This "issue" has been disputed among the later scholars from the followers of Ahmad and others. Among those who said that they will not be judged: Abu Bakr Abdul Aziz, Abu Al-Hasan Al-Tamimi, Al-Qadi Abu Ya'la, and others. And among those who said that they will be judged: Abu Hafs Al-Barmaki from the followers of Ahmad, Abu Sulaiman Al-Dimashqi, and Abu Talib Al-Makki. The definitive statement is that the judgment means presenting their deeds to them and reproaching them for it, and it also means balancing good deeds with bad deeds. If the first meaning of judgment is intended, there is no doubt that they will be judged in this regard. But if the second meaning is intended, and it is meant that the disbelievers will have good deeds that entitle them to Paradise, this is a clear mistake. And if it is meant that they will vary in punishment; the punishment of those whose bad deeds are more will be greater than
سُئِلَ عَنْ الْكُفَّارِ: هَلْ يُحَاسَبُونَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ أَمْ لَا؟ فَأَجَابَ: هَذِهِ " الْمَسْأَلَةُ " تَنَازَعَ فِيهَا الْمُتَأَخِّرُونَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ أَحْمَدَ وَغَيْرِهِمْ فَمِمَّنْ قَالَ إنَّهُمْ لَا يُحَاسَبُونَ: أَبُو بَكْرٍ عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ وَأَبُو الْحَسَنِ التَّمِيمِيُّ وَالْقَاضِي أَبُو يَعْلَى وَغَيْرُهُمْ وَمِمَّنْ قَالَ: إنَّهُمْ يُحَاسَبُونَ: أَبُو حَفْصٍ الْبَرْمَكِيُّ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ أَحْمَدَ وَأَبُو سُلَيْمَانَ الدِّمَشْقِيُّ وَأَبُو طَالِبٍ الْمَكِّيُّ. وَفَصْلُ الْخِطَابِ أَنَّ الْحِسَابَ يُرَادُ بِهِ عَرْضُ أَعْمَالِهِمْ عَلَيْهِمْ وَتَوْبِيخُهُمْ عَلَيْهَا وَيُرَادُ بِالْحِسَابِ مُوَازَنَةُ الْحَسَنَاتِ بِالسَّيِّئَاتِ. فَإِنْ أُرِيدَ بِالْحِسَابِ الْمَعْنَى الْأَوَّلُ فَلَا رَيْبَ أَنَّهُمْ يُحَاسَبُونَ بِهَذَا الِاعْتِبَارِ. وَإِنْ أُرِيدَ الْمَعْنَى الثَّانِي فَإِنْ قُصِدَ بِذَلِكَ أَنَّ الْكُفَّارَ تَبْقَى لَهُمْ حَسَنَاتٌ يَسْتَحِقُّونَ بِهَا الْجَنَّةَ فَهَذَا خَطَأٌ ظَاهِرٌ. وَإِنْ أُرِيدَ أَنَّهُمْ يَتَفَاوَتُونَ فِي الْعِقَابِ؛ فَعِقَابُ مَنْ كَثُرَتْ سَيِّئَاتُهُ أَعْظَمُ مِنْ
