— They unanimously agree that the waiting period (1) of every divorced woman—whether her husband still retains the right to take her back or not; whether she is free, a female slave, a mudabbara (a slave woman to be freed upon her master’s death), or a mukataba (one under a manumission contract)—if she is pregnant, ends when she delivers her child.
— They unanimously agree that the waiting period of a widow (2) terminates upon miscarriage.
— They unanimously agree that if a pregnant woman, unaware of her husband’s death or of her divorce, gives birth, her waiting period is complete (3).
— They unanimously agree that a pre-pubescent girl or an adult woman who has been divorced before experiencing menstruation, if she begins to menstruate a day—or even less—before the close of the third month, must restart her waiting period on the basis of menstrual cycles.
— They unanimously agree that a woman divorced while in post-partum bleeding does not count that bleeding toward her waiting period; rather, she begins counting after it ends, using her ensuing menstrual periods.
— They unanimously agree that if a man issues a revocable divorce (4) to his wife and then dies before her waiting period (5) expires, she must observe the waiting period of widowhood and she inherits from him.
— They unanimously agree that if a thrice-divorced woman dies, her former husband does not inherit from her, for she is no longer his wife.
— They unanimously agree that a dhimmi woman married to a Muslim has the same waiting period as a free Muslim woman (6).
— They unanimously agree that if a man marries off his umm walad (a slave-woman who has borne him a child) to another man and the master dies while she is still with her husband, she is subject to neither a waiting period nor an istibrāʾ (a clearance period to ensure the womb is free of pregnancy).
— They unanimously agree that the waiting period of a menstruating female slave after divorce is two menstrual cycles. Ibn Sīrīn alone dissented, holding that her waiting period is identical to that of a free woman unless a specific sunnah indicates otherwise.
— They unanimously agree that the waiting period of a pregnant female slave lasts until she delivers her child.
