Manāsik al-ḤajjIbn Taimiya

After the concluding salām, there should be no (1) greeting offered in either loud or hushed tones; rather, it is already included within the prayer itself, in the worshiper’s words:

“Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.”

(2) This is what the Law prescribes, just as invoking blessings upon him is prescribed at every time and in every place. It is soundly established from him (3) in the Ṣaḥīḥ (4) that he said:

“Whoever invokes one blessing upon me, Allah will bless him ten times in return.”

And in the Musnad (5) it is reported that a man said, “O Messenger of Allah, shall I devote a third of my supplication to blessings upon you?” He replied:

“If you do so, Allah will suffice you for a third of your concerns.”

The man then said (6), “Shall I devote two-thirds of my supplication to you?”

(1) The word “la” (no) is absent from manuscript J. (2) The word “hadha” (this) is absent from manuscripts J and D. (3) The word “anhu” (from him) is absent from manuscripts J and D. (4) Reported by Muslim, no. 408, on the authority of Abu Hurayra. (5) Reported by Ahmad, no. 21242, with the wording: A man said, “Messenger of Allah, what if I devote all my supplication to you?” He replied, “Then Allah will suffice you regarding what concerns you in your worldly life and in the Hereafter.” Al-Albani judged its chain sound in Sahih al-Targhib, no. 1670. Al-Tirmidhi also narrated it, no. 2457, with the wording: Ubayy said, “Messenger of Allah, I often invoke blessings upon you; how much of my supplication should I allocate for you?” He said, “As you wish.” I said, “A quarter?” He said, “As you wish, and if you add more it is better for you.” I said, “A half?” He said, “As you wish, and if you add more it is better for you.” I said, “Two-thirds?” He said, “As you wish, and if you add more it is better for you.” I said, “Shall I devote all my supplication to you?” He said, “Then your worries will be relieved and your sins forgiven.” Al-Tirmidhi graded it “hasan sahih,” and al-Albani concurred. (6) Manuscript D adds the word “qala” (he said).
