About the author
Full name: Abu al-Husayn Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Ja'far ibn Hamdan al-Quduri al-Baghdadi al-Hanafi.
Birth and death: He was born in 362 H (973) in Baghdad. He died in Baghdad on Sunday 5 Rajab 428 H (24 April 1037), at the age of 66. May Allah have mercy on him.
His place in the Umma: He was a Hanafi jurist to whom the leadership of the Hanafis in Iraq ultimately fell. He was classified in the fourth category of jurists, that of the Ashab at-Tarjih among the muqallidun. His most famous work, Mukhtasar al-Quduri, is one of the greatest and most influential introductory works to Hanafi fiqh in all of Islamic history, studied in Hanafi madrasas worldwide for over a thousand years. His Tajrid in comparative fiqh is a unique reference in the history of the divergences between the Hanafis and the Shafi'is. May Allah grant us benefit from his knowledge and elevate his abode to the highest degrees of Paradise.
