5 – On the authority of Fāṭimah bint Qays:
“Abū ʿAmr ibn Ḥafṣ divorced her irrevocably” (in another wording: “with the last of three pronouncements of divorce”) while he was away … She went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and mentioned that to him … He told her to observe her waiting period in the house of Umm Sharik, then said: “That woman is visited by my Companions; complete your ʿiddah with Ibn Umm Maktūm, for he is a blind man, so you may remove your garments [there].” In another narration he said: “Move to Umm Sharik”—and Umm Sharik was a wealthy woman from the Anṣār who spent generously in the way of Allah and whose house welcomed guests. I said, “I will do so.” He replied, “Do not do so, for Umm Sharik entertains many guests, and I dislike that your head-cover might slip or your garment be lifted, and we could not recognize one another’s faces.”⦗1⦘

“Abū ʿAmr ibn Ḥafṣ divorced her irrevocably” (in another wording: “with the last of three pronouncements of divorce”) while he was absent … She went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and informed him … He ordered her to observe her waiting period in the house of Umm Sharik, then said: “That woman is visited by my Companions; observe your ʿiddah with Ibn Umm Maktūm, for he is a blind man and you can remove your garments [there].” In another narration he said: “Move to Umm Sharik”—and Umm Sharik was a wealthy woman from the Anṣār who spent generously in Allah’s cause and whose house was frequented by guests. I said, “I will do that.” He said, “Do not do so; Umm Sharik receives many guests, and I fear that your head-cover may slip or your garment be lifted from your shins and the men might see of you what you would dislike. Instead, move to your cousin ʿAbd Allāh ibn Umm Maktūm [the blind man]”—and he belonged to the same clan as she—“[for when you put off your head-cover he will not see you].” So I moved to him, and when my waiting period ended I heard the caller proclaiming, “The prayer is about to be held,” so I went out to the mosque.
