In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful
Preface to the First Edition
All praise belongs to Allah, Lord of all worlds, who says in His Noble Book: “O children of Adam, We have sent down to you garments to conceal your nakedness and as adornment; but the garment of God-fearingness—that is best. These are among Allah’s signs, so that they may take heed.” ⦗Al-Aʿrāf 7:26⦘
Blessings and peace be upon Muhammad, sent as a mercy to all people, and upon his family, his Companions, and all who follow them with excellence until the Day of Reckoning.
To proceed: this is a brief treatise and, Allah willing, a beneficial study that I have compiled to explain the clothing a Muslim woman must wear when she leaves her home, along with the conditions that must be met for that clothing to be truly Islamic. In preparing it I have relied on the Quran and the Sunnah, guided by the transmitted reports and statements of the Companions and the leading imams. If I have been correct, then that is from Allah, to Him belong all grace and favour; and if I have erred, it is from myself, and I ask His pardon and forgiveness for my sin. He is Ever-Pardoning, Most Generous, All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
This work was undertaken at the request of some beloved brothers, whom we consider righteous and upright, and who are eager to act upon what the Quran and the Sunnah indicate.
