Jilbab al-Marah al-Muslimah fi al-Kitab wa al-SunnahNasir al-Din al-Albani
  1. Al-Sharīd ibn Suwayd said:
= Muhajir, from his father, from Asmaʾ bint Yazid al-Ansariyya: “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by me while I was with some girls of my own age, and he gave us salam.” This chain is sound, God willing; its narrators are trustworthy and belong to the ranks of those found in the Sahih collections, with the sole exception of Muhajir—the father of Muhammad—yet a number of scholars narrated from him and Ibn Hibban listed him among the reliable transmitters (5/427). Accepting his report here is therefore preferable, especially since he was Asmaʾ’s client and thus knows her hadith better than Shahr. Accordingly, the core of the report is authentic, and the wording that speaks of a hand gesture is a rejected addition that stems from the mistakes of Shahr ibn Hawshab; it is not a valid proof and cannot be set against the hadith under discussion. Notice: After quoting Asmaʾ’s report in the version that contains the gesture, Ibn Hajar says in Fath al-bari, “It has a corroborant from Jabir, recorded by Ahmad.” Mubarakpuri reproduces this statement in Tuhfat al-ahwadhi. It is highly probable, however, that “Jabir” is a slip of the pen and that the correct name is “Jarir,” for Haythami, in Majmaʿ (8/38), cites only Jarir’s narration, whose wording is: “The Prophet ﷺ passed by a group of women and extended salam to them.” This narration appears in the Musnad (4/357, 363), ʿAmal al-yawm wa’l-layla by Ibn al-Sunni (no. 221), Abu Yaʿla, and Tabarani. Haythami remarks that its chain is confused; in some routes the narrator is Jabir from Tariq al-Taymi, about whom Haythami says, “If this Jabir is al-Jufi, he is weak.” Ibn Hajar asserts in Taʿjil that he is indeed al-Jufi, but this is questionable, for the chain actually names Jabir ibn ʿAbd Allah, whereas al-Jufi’s father was Yazid; the two are therefore distinct. Allah knows best. 2- Reported by Abu Dawud (2/295), al-Hakim (4/269), and Ahmad (4/388). Al-Hakim declared the chain sound and al-Dhahabi concurred. I say: rather, it meets al-Bukhari’s criterion, for Ibn Jurayj explicitly stated that he heard it
