Jilbab al-Marah al-Muslimah fi al-Kitab wa al-SunnahNasir al-Din al-Albani

“Be aware that those who preceded you used to turn the graves of their prophets and their righteous into places of worship. Beware, therefore, and do not turn graves into places of worship—indeed I forbid you to do so.”

4- From Shaddad ibn Aws who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Differ from the Jews, for they do not perform the prayer in their sandals or their leather socks.”

5- From ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿUmar who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

that he ﷺ forbids us from it. This shows that the very adoption of such a practice by earlier communities, in relation to us, is either an outward sign of a prohibition or the actual reason for it. Their actions therefore serve as an indication that Allah forbids them for us, or else they are themselves the cause that necessitates the ban. On either reading it is clear that opposing them is, in general, something the Lawgiver intends. The prohibition of this act, reinforced by his ﷺ cursing of the Jews and Christians for it, is mass-transmitted from him… A detailed survey is not required here, for our purpose is only to state the broad principle, although many scholars of the Maliki, Shafi‘i, Hanbali and other schools have explicitly declared the practice forbidden. (4) We recorded the report in Sahih Sunan Abi Dawud, no. 659, cited the authorities who authenticated it, and discussed its legal implications in al-Thamar al-Mustatab and in our edition of Sifat Salat al-Nabi. The Prophet ﷺ issued an unqualified order to differ from the Jews, proving that the very act of contravening them is intended by the Lawgiver. He then specifically mentioned differing from them by praying in sandals or leather socks; this is not a limitation of a general command or a restriction of an absolute one, but simply the mention of one instance of the general rule. Shaykh al-Islam (p. 29) comments: “The Jews’ habit of removing their sandals goes back to Moses, when it was said to him: ‘Remove your sandals’ (Q 20:12).” (5) Reported by al-Bayhaqi and al-Tahawi with a sound chain. We also cited a parallel wording in Sahih Abi Dawud, no. 645, and argued there that the report is most probably marfuʿ even though the transmitter occasionally hesitated. Shaykh al-Islam (p. 42) writes: “The purport is soundly established from the Prophet ﷺ—on the authority of Jabir and others—that in the case of a tight garment he instructed wearing it as an izar (waist-wrapper) rather than as an ishtimal (one-shouldered wrap); this is the view of the majority of scholars… What matters here is that he said, ‘and do not wrap yourselves in the manner of the Jews.’ The very attachment of the forbidden mode of dress to the Jews indicates that this attribution plays a role in the prohibition, as has already been pointed out.”
