Jilbab al-Marah al-Muslimah fi al-Kitab wa al-SunnahNasir al-Din al-Albani

As for the Sunnah, its texts are plentiful and sound, all corroborating the principle mentioned above. They are not confined to one section of the purified Sharia—prayer, for example—but reach into other forms of worship, manners, social dealings, and everyday customs. The Sunnah thus explains and elaborates what the earlier verses and others like them stated concisely, as we have already noted.

We now set these reports before you, that you may clearly understand the conclusion to which we have come:

—both in their Sahih collections; al-Tirmidhi added, “It is a hasan sahih (sound–good) hadith.” Others have also related it, and we have discussed it in our Sahih Sunan Abi Dawud, no. 250. Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyya writes in al-Iqtida: “This hadith shows how often Allah legislated matters for His Prophet in order to differ from the Jews; indeed, he opposed them in most of their practices, to the point that they said, ‘He does not wish to leave any aspect of our way without contradicting us in it.’ Such opposition, as we shall explain, is sometimes to the very basis of a ruling and sometimes to its particular manner. In the case of avoiding a menstruating woman, the basis was not opposed; only its manner was, for Allah allowed intimacy with the menstruating woman in ways that avoid the place of harm. When some Companions wished to push the opposition further by abandoning what Allah had permitted, the Messenger of Allah’s face changed. In the field of ritual purity the Jews were burdened with severe restrictions, while the Christians innovated by abandoning all of them, to the extent that they deem nothing impure without explicit revelation. Allah therefore guided the middle community to the balanced path: shunning what Allah has not commanded us to shun is an imitation of the Jews, and engaging in what Allah has commanded us to avoid is an imitation of the Christians. The best guidance is the guidance of Muhammad ﷺ.”
