Jilbab al-Marah al-Muslimah fi al-Kitab wa al-SunnahNasir al-Din al-Albani

7- ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUmar said: “When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ unveiled Safiyyah on their wedding night, he noticed ʿĀʾishah, who was standing among the people wearing a niqāb (face veil), and he recognized her.”

8- Ibrāhīm ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAwf narrated: “ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb granted the Prophet’s ﷺ wives permission to perform ḥajj during the final pilgrimage…”

(8) Ibn Saʿd transmits the report (8:152): “Al-Walid ibn ʿAta ibn al-Agharr al-Makki informed us; Ibrahim ibn Saʿd, from his father, from his grandfather, that ʿUmar ibn al-Khattab ….” The isnad is hasan: all its narrators are those used by the two Shaykhs except this al-Walid. Al-Dhahabi nevertheless listed him in al-Mizan, and Ibn Hajar followed suit in al-Lisan, both remarking, “Ibn ʿAdi mentioned him, though he had no reason to do so, for the man was declared reliable; after quoting a single hadith from him, Ibn ʿAdi himself cleared him of any blame.” Al-Waqidi supplies a corroborating chain in Ibn Saʿd as well (8:151). That athar says that ʿUmar’s womenfolk also veiled their persons, yet it contains nothing to show that this was obligatory for them. Hence it does not contradict what we quoted earlier from Ibn Hajar—that they appeared before the Companions with their bodies covered but without completely screening themselves—because the situation arose from a need or a religious benefit, a nuance already implicit in Ibn Hajar’s own words. Allah knows best. Ahmad likewise records (6:219) from Yazid ibn Babanus: “A companion and I went to ʿAʾisha and sought permission to enter. She tossed a cushion toward us and pulled the curtain toward herself. My companion then asked, ‘Mother of the Believers, what do you say about al-ark …?’” Its isnad is hasan.
