Lessons drawn from the verse:
- Tawḥīd is the very first obligation that Allah has enjoined and the foremost right owed by the servant.
- The statement lā ilāha illā Allah (there is no deity but Allah) incorporates both negation and affirmation, proving that tawḥīd stands only on this twin foundation: negating worship of anything besides Allah and affirming it exclusively for Him, as mentioned earlier.
- The greatness of the parents’ right, for Allah linked their right to His own and ranked it second only to it.
- The duty to treat one’s parents with every form of kindness, since the verse did not specify any single type to the exclusion of others.
- The prohibition of showing disrespect or disobedience toward one’s parents.
