Al-Mulakhkhas fi Sharh Kitab al-TawhidSalih Al-Fawzan

someone to call out among the people that the necklaces fastened around the necks of the camels—necklaces intended to ward off the evil eye and other misfortunes—must be removed, because such a practice is an act of shirk that must be eradicated.

Relevance of the ḥadīth to the chapter: it proves that hanging bowstrings or anything of that sort on camels and the like to repel harm is forbidden and constitutes polytheism, for it is nothing but the hanging of unlawful amulets.

Benefits derived from the ḥadīth:

  1. Hanging bowstrings to avert calamities falls under the same prohibition as amulets.
  2. The obligation to remove evil and reprehensible practices.
  3. The duty to convey to people what safeguards their creed.
