because swearing is an act of venerating the one by whom the oath is taken, and such veneration belongs solely to Allah, exalted is He. He then orders anyone who swears by Allah to speak the truth about the matter he has sworn upon, for Allah has made truthfulness obligatory for His servants in every circumstance—how much more so when they swear by Him! Likewise, the Prophet ﷺ instructs the one for whose sake an oath by Allah is taken, whether in a dispute or otherwise, to accept that oath, for doing so is part of glorifying Allah. Thereafter he ﷺ sets out the severe warning for anyone who refuses to accept an oath sworn by Allah, for such refusal betrays a lack of reverence for Him.
