until his love aligns completely with what the Messenger ﷺ has brought—be it commands, prohibitions, or anything else—so that he loves whatever the Prophet enjoined and hates whatever he forbade.
Relevance of the ḥadīth to this chapter: it negates faith for anyone who does not feel at ease with Allah’s law, cherish it, and detest any man-made statutes or regulations that contradict it.
Points gleaned from the ḥadīth
- It is obligatory to love everything the Messenger ﷺ has brought, especially his legislation, and to act upon it.
- It is obligatory to hate everything that conflicts with the Prophet’s law ﷺ and to avoid it.
- Faith is nullified for the one whose heart inclines toward opposing what the Messenger ﷺ has brought, even if outwardly he appears to follow it.
