Al-Mulakhkhas fi Sharh Kitab al-TawhidSalih Al-Fawzan

The overall meaning of the first verse is that Allah—majestic and exalted—describes His intimate friend Abraham, peace be upon him, with four qualities:

  1. He was a model of goodness, having perfected the stations of patience and certitude, through which leadership in religion is attained.
  2. He was humble, obedient, and constant in the worship of Allah the Most High.
  3. He shunned every form of shirk and turned wholly to Allah.
  4. He kept far from polytheism and severed ties with the polytheists.

Relevance of the first verse to this chapter: Allah attributes to His close friend these qualities that represent the pinnacle of realizing tawḥīd, and we have been commanded to follow his example in the verse, “Indeed there has been for you an excellent example in Abraham and those with him” (Al-Mumtahanah 60:4).

Relevance of the second verse to this chapter: Allah describes the believers who hasten to the Gardens with several traits, the greatest of which is His praise that they do not associate anything with their Lord—neither in what is hidden nor in what is manifest. Whoever attains this has reached the utmost realization of tawḥīd and will enter Paradise without reckoning or punishment.

Lessons derived from the two verses:
1- The virtue of our father Abraham, peace be upon him.
2- The duty to emulate him in these lofty qualities.
3- A clarification of the traits by which tawḥīd is perfected.
4- The obligation to avoid shirk, to distance oneself from the polytheists, and to repudiate them.
5- The believers are characterized by their realization of tawḥīd.
