Al-Mulakhkhas fi Sharh Kitab al-TawhidSalih Al-Fawzan

As in the other verse: “Whoever desires the fleeting world, We hasten for him therein whatever We will to whomever We please” (Sūrah al-Isrāʾ, 17:18). Thereafter he reaches the Hereafter and will possess no good deed for which he might receive a reward.

Connection of the two verses to this chapter: they clarify the ruling on the one who performs deeds for worldly gain and explain his fate in both this life and the next.

Lessons drawn from the two verses:
1- They establish that shirk nullifies deeds and that seeking the world and its glitter through one’s actions likewise renders those actions void.
2- They show that Allah may recompense the unbeliever or the worldly-minded person for his good works in the present life, yet he will have no good deed left for reward in the Hereafter.
3- They contain a stern warning against aiming for worldly benefit through acts meant for the Hereafter.
4- They encourage directing righteous deeds toward the Hereafter.
