Lessons drawn from the ḥadith:
- A sign that Allah intends good for His servant is His hastening the servant’s punishment for his sins in this life.
- A sign that Allah intends evil for a servant is that He defers punishment for his sin until the servant arrives on the Day of Resurrection still bearing it.
- Continuous well-being and good health may be cause for concern, for they could be an indication of divine displeasure.
- The ḥadith calls us to think well of Allah and to hope for His favor regarding whatever hardship He decrees.
- A person may hate something that is actually good for him and may love something that is actually harmful to him.
- It urges perseverance and patience in the face of afflictions.
