Lessons gleaned from the ḥadīth:
- Tale-bearing (namīmah) is a kind of sorcery, for it achieves what sorcery achieves—driving wedges between hearts and spreading discord—though the tale-bearer does not share the sorcerer’s legal status with respect to disbelief and similar rulings.
- Namīmah is strictly forbidden and ranks among the major sins.
- Teaching by means of a question followed by its answer is an effective pedagogical method, for it fixes the information more firmly in the mind and better captures attention.
