charitable donation we give, and every act of worship we bind ourselves to perform—whether directed to Him or to anyone else—and He will reward each person according to his intention and purpose.
Relevance of the two verses to this chapter: the verses show that making a vow is an act of worship, for Allah praises those who fulfill their vows, and He only praises someone for carrying out a commanded act or refraining from a prohibited one. He also tells us that He knows whatever expenditures or vows proceed from us and that He will recompense us for them. This proves that a vow is worship, and whatever is worship, directing it to other than Allah constitutes shirk.
Lessons derived from the two verses:
- A vow is an act of worship; therefore offering it to anyone other than Allah is major shirk.
- Affirmation that Allah’s knowledge encompasses everything.
- Confirmation that deeds will be requited.
- Encouragement to fulfill one’s vows.
