al-Usul min Ilm al-UsulIbn al-'Uthaymin

Author’s Introduction

All praise is due to Allah. We praise Him, seek His help, ask His forgiveness, and repent to Him. We seek refuge in Allah from the evils within ourselves and from the consequences of our actions. Whomever Allah guides, none can mislead, and whomever He leaves to stray, no one can guide. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, without partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and messenger. May Allah bless him, his family, his Companions, and all who follow them with excellence until the Day of Judgment, and may He grant them perfect peace.

To proceed: This is a concise treatise on the principles of jurisprudence, written in accordance with the prescribed curriculum for the third secondary year in the Islamic institutes. We have entitled it:

“The Fundamentals from the Science of Fundamentals.”

I ask Allah to make this work sincerely for His sake and beneficial to His servants. Indeed, He is ever near, the One who answers prayer.
