Lessons derived from the ḥadith:
-
The permissibility of wiping over the khuffayn while travelling. The maximum period for wiping over the khuffayn and the turban on a journey is three days together with their nights. For a resident, the limit is one day and one night—i.e., twenty-four hours—calculated, whether in travel or at home, from the moment the first wipe is made, according to the soundest view.

Wiping over the khuffayn after completing wudu following urination is valid, and the legitimacy of wiping over the khuffayn and the turban for every minor state of ritual impurity is confirmed by numerous ḥadiths. As for a major impurity that requires ghusl, such as post-coital defilement, wiping over the khuffayn or the turban is not sufficient; a full bath is mandatory. Concerning a splint or a firmly bandaged wound, wiping over it is allowed for both minor and major states of impurity. If wiping would harm the injury or there is fear of harm, one does not wipe; instead one performs tayammum for that area while washing the rest of the healthy limbs.
