Asl Sifat Salat al-NabiNasir al-Din al-Albani

and “he would make this supplication during his tashahhud.” (1)

though without reproducing the wording in full. Al-Bayhaqi also records it through Abu al-Mughira and Muhammad b. Kathir—both from al-Awzaʿi—with the wording: “When one of you has finished his prayer, let him supplicate with four petitions, then let him ask for whatever he wishes….” Al-Darimi likewise transmits it from his teacher Muhammad b. Kathir, yet he too omits the wording, merely pointing back to the narration already cited and saying, “with a similar wording.” It therefore seems that this particular wording belongs to Muhammad b. Kathir, for al-Darimi relates the preceding version through Abu al-Mughira with a comparable wording that lacks the extra phrase, “then let him ask for whatever he wishes.” Ibn Hajar states in Fath al-Bari (2/256): “This addition is authentic, because it comes through the chain Muslim used.” He affirms the same ruling in al-Talkhis (3/516) after attributing it to al-Nasaʾi. The addition appears in the two Sahihs and other works in the hadith of Ibn Masud, and it was cited earlier under the first tashahhud (p. 865). (1) It is narrated from Abd Allah b. Abbas. Abu Dawud (1/155–156) records it through Muhammad b. Abd Allah b. Tawus, from his father, from Tawus, from him, from the Prophet ﷺ: that after the tashahhud he would say…; Abu Dawud reproduces it with the same wording found in Malik’s report mentioned below. The chain is hasan: all its transmitters are narrators of Muslim except Muhammad b. Abd Allah; Ibn Hibban declared him reliable, and a number of scholars narrated from him.
