b. Malik was never cited by either al-Bukhari or Muslim in their two Sahihs. The hadith was also declared sahih by Ibn Khuzaymah (1/83/2 = 1/351 no. 710) and by Ibn Hibban, as quoted in al-Jalaʾ, p. 243. Al-Nasaʾi likewise transmitted it (1/189) through Ibn Wahb from Abu Hani with the wording: “Ajilta ayyuhal-musalli! (You have hurried, O worshiper!).” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then taught them what to say; this version contains the additional phrasing, and its isnad is likewise sound. Ibn Lahiyʿah also reported it from Abu Hani, but restricted himself to the Prophetic statement: “Idha daʿa ahadukum … (When any of you supplicates …),” a version recorded by Ibn al-Sunni (no. 39). Ibn Lahiyʿah, however, is weak because of his poor memory. This extra wording has a corroborating chain: al-Tirmidhi—and likewise al-Tabarani, as cited in Majmaʿ al-zawaʾid 10/155-156—narrated it through Rashdin b. Saʿd from Abu Hani in the words: “While the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was sitting, a man entered, prayed, and said, ‘O Allah, forgive me and have mercy on me.’ The Messenger of Allah said, ‘Ajilta ayyuhal-musalli! When you finish the prayer and sit, praise Allah as He deserves, invoke blessings upon me, and then make your supplication.’ “Then another man prayed, praised Allah, and invoked blessings upon the Prophet, whereupon the Prophet said, ‘Ayyuhal-musalli! Duʿ; tujab (O worshiper, ask and you will be answered).’” Al-Tirmidhi said:
