Asl Sifat Salat al-NabiNasir al-Din al-Albani

“O Allah, curse Lihyan, Ri‘l, Dhakwan and ‘Usayya, for they disobeyed Allah and His Messenger.” We were later informed that he stopped invoking this curse when the verse “You have no part in the matter…” (Q 3:128) was revealed. Al-Hafiz comments: “This report is not sound, for the chain between al-Zuhri and his informant is broken. Moreover, the affair of Ri‘l and Dhakwan took place after Uhud, while the verse ‘You have no part in the matter’ was revealed concerning Uhud itself—as will be discussed (pp. 960–962); how, then, could the cause follow the revelation?” The hadith also shows that it is recommended to pronounce the qunut (supplication while standing) aloud, which is the predominant view among the Shafi‘is. Al-Nawawi (3/502) says: “The correct position is that it is recommended to recite it aloud; for in al-Bukhari, Abu Hurayra reports that the Prophet ﷺ raised his voice in the qunut al-nazila, and there are many other authentic hadiths supporting the audible qunut.” This is likewise the view of Imam Ahmad. Abu Dawud records in his Masa’il (67): “I heard Ahmad asked about the qunut; he said, ‘What pleases us is that the imam recites the qunut and those behind him say amin.’” I add: this is what is transmitted from the Companions. In Qiyam al-Layl by Ibn Nasr (p. 137) it is related from Abu ‘Uthman al-Nahdi: “‘Umar used to lead us in the dawn prayer and would perform the qunut so that his voice could be heard beyond the mosque.” Al-Hasan narrates that Ubayy ibn Ka‘b led the people in Ramadan and would perform the qunut in the latter half of the month until they could all hear his supplication.
