Asl Sifat Salat al-NabiNasir al-Din al-Albani

Moreover, all adhkar and awrad (devotional formulas and litanies) are tawqifiyya—fixed by revelation—so it is unlawful to add to them, omit from them, or alter any of their wording. The Sunnah makes this clear. In the two Sahihs it is related from al-Bara ibn Azib that the Messenger of Allah said to him: “When you come to your bed, perform ablution as you do for prayer, then lie on your right side and say: ‘O Allah, I have surrendered my face to You…’” The report continues: “I believe in the Book You have sent down and in Your Prophet whom You have sent.” Al-Bara said, “As I was repeating it back I said, ‘…and in Your Messenger whom You have sent.’ He replied, ‘No.’” In another wording, recorded by al-Tirmidhi (2/240, Bulaq ed.) and by al-Tahawi in Mushkil al-Athar (2/45), al-Bara adds: “He prodded me in the chest with his hand and said, ‘Rather, say: and in Your Prophet whom You have sent.’” Ibn Hajar comments in Fath al-Bari (11/94): “The soundest explanation for the Prophet’s correction of al-Bara is that the wording of devotional remembrances is tawqifiyya and possesses special properties and mysteries that cannot be subjected to analogy; the exact wording transmitted must therefore be preserved. This is the view of al-Mazari, who said: One must confine oneself to the reported wording letter for letter, for the reward may be linked to those very letters, and it is possible that these words were revealed verbatim, making it obligatory to recite them exactly as they came.” This is a weighty principle that must be observed with every dhikr and wird reported from him: nothing is to be added, omitted, or modified. The Prophet objected when a person replaced the word nabi (prophet) with rasul (messenger), even though the meaning remained unchanged—since “messenger” is more general than “prophet,” every messenger being a prophet plus something more. If he censured so slight a substitution, his censure of anyone who adds extra words, thereby altering both wording and meaning, is even more certain. The practice of the Companions attests to the same rule:
