The same additional wording is also transmitted in the hadith of Talha b. Ubayd Allah—cited immediately below—and in the hadith of Abu Hurayra, which we list as the seventh category. Strangely enough, Ibn al-Qayyim himself reproduces the report with this very addition in his book (pp. 14–15) and even rules that it is “sound according to the criteria of the Two Shaykhs [al-Bukhari and Muslim].” How, then, could he later assert that “no authentic hadith contains both phrases”? It seems he simply forgot what he had just quoted. The same wording is likewise found in an al-Bukhari narration from Abu Said al-Khudri, our fifth category. 3) The version from Talha b. Ubayd Allah reads: “I asked, ‘Messenger of Allah, how are we to invoke blessings upon you?’ He replied, ‘Say: …,’” and he mentioned the full formula. Ahmad records it (1/162): Muhammad b. Bishr narrated to us; Mujammi b. Yahya al-Ansari narrated to us; Uthman b. Mawhab narrated to us, from Musa b. Talha, from his father. Al-Nasa i likewise transmits it (1/190) through Ishaq b. Ibrahim; and Abu Yala in his Musnad (fol. 44/2 = 1/282, no. 648) through Abu Bakr b. Abi Shayba. Both chains go back to Muhammad b. Bishr, and both contain the two extra clauses.
