Asl Sifat Salat al-NabiNasir al-Din al-Albani

and the mercy of Allah—Ibn ʿUmar said, “I later inserted (1): and His blessings”—peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no deity but Allah—Ibn ʿUmar said, “and I later inserted (1): He alone, without partner”—and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and His Messenger.

(1/113) reports that Ibn ʿUmar’s tashahhud was worded: “Peace be upon the Prophet.” Its isnad is exceptionally sound, making it an additional corroboration for the previously cited hadith of Ibn Masʿud. Moreover, al-Bayhaqi’s statement—that Ibn Abi ʿAdi transmitted it from Shuʿbah in mawquf form—is supported by what appears in al-Talkhis (3/514): “Al-Bazzar also narrated it through Nasr b. ʿAli and said: It has been transmitted from Ibn ʿUmar by several narrators, and I know of no one who raised it from Shuʿbah except ʿAli b. Nasr.” So he claimed, yet al-Daraqutni’s earlier remark conflicts with this. I say: It is known that al-Bayhaqi agrees with al-Bazzar on this point, and since al-Bayhaqi lived after al-Daraqutni, he must have seen al-Daraqutni’s words. His disagreement therefore indicates that something is amiss. Perhaps al-Daraqutni erred, or perhaps the report from Ibn Abi ʿAdi circulated both in marfuʿ and mawquf forms—al-Daraqutni happened upon the marfuʿ version that escaped al-Bazzar and al-Bayhaqi—though this seems remote. Allah knows best. (1) It appears that Ibn ʿUmar did not receive this additional phrase directly from the Prophet ﷺ; he inserted it, not as an innovation, but by transmitting it from other Companions who narrated the tashahhud from the Prophet with this first addition. The second addition is firmly established in the tashahhud of Abu Musa, to be cited later, and this supports the foregoing possibility.
