Asl Sifat Salat al-NabiNasir al-Din al-Albani

while he was still among us (1); but when he was taken in death, we said, “al-salāmu ʿalā an-nabiyy (peace be upon the Prophet).” (2)

and that is exactly what Allah’s words convey: “But no—by your Lord—they will not truly believe until they make you the judge in whatever disputes arise among them, then find in themselves no discomfort regarding what you have decided and submit in full submission.” Likewise His statement: “It is not for a believing man or a believing woman, once Allah and His Messenger have decided a matter, to have any choice about it.” There is no doubt, therefore, that affirming everything Muhammad ﷺ has brought—whether legal rulings or matters of the unseen, even when far beyond your intellect—forms part of belief in the unseen (iman bil-ghayb), a defining trait of the God-fearing in the Quran: “Alif-Lam-Meem. This is the Book in which there is no doubt, a guidance for the God-fearing, those who believe in the unseen.” So, O believer, abide by the very wording of the Wise Lawgiver: do not go to excess, nor be negligent; rather, keep to the middle course so that you may be saved by the Lord of all worlds. (Benefit) Shaykh ‘Ali al-Qari states in al-Mirqat (1/557): “What has been transmitted is that his tashahhud ﷺ was identical to ours. As for al-Rafi‘i’s claim that he ﷺ would say during the tashahhud, ‘and I testify that I am the Messenger of Allah,’ it is rejected, for it has no basis.” (1) Pronounced with a fathah on the first nun, a sukun on the ya, then another nun. Its root is zahrana (“our backs”). The dual form accounts for what is before and behind us, meaning “situated between us.” The added alif and nun serve as emphasis, and the first nun must not take a kasrah. So state al-Jawhari and others, according to Fath. (2) Al-Hafiz, may Allah have mercy on him, said (11/47): “This addition shows that during the Prophet’s lifetime they used to say, ‘as-salam ‘alayka ayyuhan-nabiyyu!’—addressing him directly. After the Prophet ﷺ passed away, they abandoned the direct form and referred to him in the third person, saying, ‘as-salam ‘ala an-nabiyyi.’” He also said elsewhere (2/250): “Al-Subki, in Sharh al-Minhaj—after citing this narration only through Abu ‘Awanah—said: ‘If this is authentically reported from the Companions, it indicates that the salutation addressed to the Prophet ﷺ after his death
