Asl Sifat Salat al-NabiNasir al-Din al-Albani

…

(1) Al-Nasai (1/174) and al-Tahawi (1/162) also transmit the report through several chains from Ibrahim, from Alqamah, with the wording: “We did not know what to say in the prayer until the Prophet of Allah ﷺ taught us comprehensive words and said: ‘Say: al-tahiyyat … .’” This is al-Nasai’s version, who further adds: Alqamah said, “I saw Ibn Masud teaching us these words just as he would teach us the Quran.” The chain is sound. Al-Tahawi adds the statement, “There is no prayer without the tashahhud,” an addition likewise recorded by al-Tabarani, as mentioned above. Al-Tahawi relates it through Abu Maʿshar al-Baraʾ, from Abu Jamrah (with the letters j and r; another manuscript reads Hamzah, with h and z), from Ibrahim; see Tahdhib al-Tahdhib to determine the correct reading (*). Abu Ishaq corroborates it from Alqamah, and his wording has already been quoted. Another chain appears in the Musnad (1/376): Khasif al-Jazari reports that Abu Ubaydah b. Abd Allah narrated from Abd Allah that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught him the tashahhud and instructed him to teach it to the people: “al-tahiyyat …,” etc. This chain is weak and interrupted, and although al-Hafiz is silent about it in Fath al-Bari (2/252), it is unsound. For the remaining chains, consult (1/393, 408, 413, 440), as well as al-Nasai, Ibn Majah, al-Tahawi, al-Tabarani’s al-Muʿjam al-Kabir, and al-Bukhari’s al-Adab al-Mufrad (no. 144). — (*) It should read Abu Hamzah, as stated in Tarajim al-Ahbar min Rijal Sharh Maʿani al-Athar (4/377).
