Asl Sifat Salat al-NabiNasir al-Din al-Albani

…

Zuhayr b. Muawiya likewise transmitted the report from al-Hasan b. al-Hurr, but he appended the words: “When you have said—or completed—this, you have finished your prayer; if you wish to stand, then stand, and if you wish to remain seated, remain seated.” Abu Dawud (1/153), al-Darimi (1/309), al-Tahawi (1/162), al-Daraqutni (135), al-Tayalisi (36) and Ahmad (1/422) all record it through various routes from him. Yet the ascription of this addition to the Prophet is weak. As al-Daraqutni and others have shown, it is in fact an interpolation (idraj) and belongs to Ibn Masud himself. Shababa b. Sawwar narrated it from Zuhayr b. Muawiya with the wording: “Abd Allah said: When you have said this …,” thus treating the clause as Ibn Masud’s own statement. Al-Daraqutni (135) and al-Bayhaqi (2/174) preserve this wording, after which al-Daraqutni comments: “Shababa is reliable; he separated the end of the report and made it the speech of Ibn Masud, and that is sounder than the version that inserts it into the Prophet’s words.” Ghasan b. al-Rabi and others corroborate this position: they narrate it from Ibn Thawban—on the authority of al-Hasan b. al-Hurr—in the same manner, attributing the final words to Ibn Masud and not raising them to the Prophet. Al-Daraqutni then reproduces Ghasan’s narration in full. Al-Nawawi (3/481) records the consensus of the hadith masters that this addition is interpolated and not the Prophet’s speech, a judgment endorsed by Ibn Hajar in al-Diraya (p. 88), where he writes: “The hadith critics agree that this extra clause is an insertion from Ibn Masud; among them are Ibn Hibban, al-Daraqutni, al-Bayhaqi and al-Khatib, and they have set forth the evidence for this.” Imam al-Zaylaʿi has gathered their statements in Nasb al-Raya (1/424–425); those interested may consult them there.
