Asl Sifat Salat al-NabiNasir al-Din al-Albani

(1/90/2); the same chain was cited by al-Ismaʿili and Abu Nuʿaym—as noted in Fath al-Bari (11/47)—and, through it, by Muslim (2/14), although he did not reproduce the wording; it also appears in Abu Yaʿla’s Musnad (2/258) = [4/464/5326] and is documented in Irwa al-Ghalil (321). Al-Bukhari (11/47) took it from Ahmad’s isnad but inserted the parenthetical clarification: “We said: Peace—i.e.—upon the Prophet, ﷺ,” adding the word “i.e.” (yaʿni). Ibn Hajar affirms that this addition is al-Bukhari’s, for neither Ahmad nor Ibn Abi Shayba include it, and they share the identical chain. Al-Bayhaqi (2/138), Abu ʿAwana in his Sahih, al-Siraj, al-Jawzaqi and Abu Nuʿaym al-Isfahani also transmit it through several lines leading back to Abu Nuʿaym, al-Bukhari’s teacher, with the wording: “When he passed away we said: Peace upon the Prophet,” omitting the word “i.e.,” as likewise recorded in Fath al-Bari (2/250). Al-Nasaʾi (1/174–175) relates it via Ishaq b. Ibrahim (Ibn Rahawayh), who said: “Al-Fadl b. Dukayn (Abu Nuʿaym) informed us,” with the same wording and without the added phrase; his first recension, like al-Bukhari’s, contains the earlier addition. The hadith has additional routes, one of which is musalsal (linked) through the taking of the hand. Imam Ahmad (1/450) states: “Husayn b. ʿAli narrated to us, from al-Hasan b. al-Hurr, from al-Qasim b. Mukhaimara who said: ʿAlqama took my hand and said: ʿAbd Allah took my hand and said: The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ, took my hand and taught me the tashahhud in the prayer: ‘al-tahiyyat …’ etc.” This chain is sound. Al-Daraqutni (134) recorded it similarly through several routes from Husayn b. ʿAli.
