For that reason al-Nawawi declared the report weak in al-Majmuʿ (4/122), and Ibn Hajar did likewise in al-Talkhis (4/156). Both of them overlooked al-Tahawi’s sound transmission that comes through Ibrahim ibn Tahman—an upright transmitter cited by both Sahihs—with a corroborating chain from Qays ibn al-Rabiʿ, whose reports are classed as hasan. This is an observation rarely noted in the literature (*). Allah is the grantor of success.
The third hadith – from Saʿd ibn Abi Waqqas:
He stood up after the first two rakʿahs; the congregation said “subhan Allah” to alert him, but he completed the standing position, then—after finishing the prayer—performed the two sajdatay al-sahw (prostrations of forgetfulness) and said, “Did you think I was going to sit down? I only did what I saw the Messenger of Allah do.”
Al-Hakim (1/322–323), al-Bayhaqi (2/344) and Ibn Hazm (4/174) record it through Ismaʿil ibn Abi Khalid → Qays ibn Abi Hazim → Saʿd. Al-Hakim judged it “sahih according to the criteria of the Two Shaykhs,” and al-Dhahabi agreed; their verdict is correct. Al-Tahawi (1/256) also transmits it via Bayan Abu Bishr al-Ahmasi, who said, “I heard Qays ibn Abi Hazim narrate it,” but without Saʿd’s closing remark.
The fourth hadith – from Abu Hurayrah:
The Prophet led them in the noon or afternoon prayer and stood up after two rakʿahs; they declared “subhan Allah” to him, yet he continued. When he completed the prayer he performed two prostrations and then gave the salam. Al-Haythami (2/151) says: “Al-Bazzar transmitted it, and its narrators are trustworthy.”
