And Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “My intimate friend, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, forbade me from squatting in the manner a dog squats.” (1) In another report it states: “He used to forbid the Devil’s perch.” (2)
And: “Whenever he sat for the tashahhud, he would place his right hand on his right thigh (in another wording: on his knee) and his left hand on his left thigh (in another wording: on his knee), [spreading it flat over them].” (3)
Muhammad b. Amr also corroborated the report’s wording, but with the formulation: “When you prostrate, settle firmly in your prostration; when you rise, sit on your left thigh.” Abu Dawud likewise recorded this version.
Yet this phrase may refer to the sitting between the two prostrations, or it may describe the sitting for the tashahhud; Allah knows best.

The term *iqʿaʾ*—explained by Abu Ubayd and others—is for a person to place his buttocks on the ground, erect his shins, and rest his hands on the ground, like the way a dog sits. I add: this is not the legislated *iqʿaʾ* between the two prostrations, as noted earlier.

﴿وقال أبو هريرة ﵁:
" ونهاني خليلي ﷺ عن اقعاء كإقعاء الكلب " (١) ، وفي حديث آخر:
" كان ينهى عن عُقْبَةِ الشيطان " (٢) .
و" كان إذا قعد في التشهد؛ وضع كفه اليمنى على فخذه (وفي رواية:
ركبته) اليمنى، ووضع كفه اليسرى على فخذه (وفي رواية: ركبته)
اليسرى؛ [باسطها عليها] " (٣) ﴾ .
وقد تابعه في متنه محمد بن عمرو، لكن بلفظ:
" إذا سجدت؛ فمكن لسجودك، فإذا رفعت؛ فاقعد على فخذك اليسرى ".
أخرجه أبو داود أيضاً.
إلا أن هذا يحتمل أن يكون أراد به القعود بين السجدتين، ويحتمل أنه القعود
للتشهد. والله أعلم.

و (الإقعاء) - قال أبو عبيد وغيره -:
" هو أن يلزق الرجل أليتيه بالأرض وينصب ساقيه، ويضع يديه بالأرض، كما
يقعي الكلب ".
قلت: وهذا غير الإقعاء المشروع بين السجدتين - كما تقدم هناك -﴾ .
