Asl Sifat Salat al-NabiNasir al-Din al-Albani

The Obligation of Reciting al-Fātiḥah in Every Rakʿah (*)

He instructed the man who had prayed incorrectly to recite al-Fātiḥah in every rakʿah. After first telling him to recite it in the initial rakʿah (1), he said, “Then do that throughout your entire prayer” (2)—in another wording, “in every rakʿah” (3).

He also said, “In every rakʿah there is a recitation” (4).

(*) This entire section, together with its marginal notes, has been inserted here from the printed edition of "Sifat al-Salat." The Shaykh has already provided a detailed documentation of its hadiths on pp. 56–57. (1) Reported by Abu Dawud and Ahmad with a strong chain of transmission. (2) Reported by al-Bukhari and Muslim. (3) Reported by Ahmad with a good chain. (4) Reported by Ibn Majah; Ibn Hibban in his Sahih; and Ahmad in Masa’il Ibn Hani, 1/52. Jabir said, “Whoever performs a rakah without reciting Umm al-Quran (Surat al-Fatiha) has not prayed—unless he is following an imam.” Reported by Malik in the Muwatta.
