Asl Sifat Salat al-NabiNasir al-Din al-Albani

and the iftirāsh (spreading out the left foot) or the iqʿāʾ (sitting on the heels) between the two prostrations. Then, “he would spread out his left foot and sit upon it, [calmly (1)]” (2). He also instructed the man who prayed incorrectly to do that, saying, “When you prostrate, make your prostration firm; then, when you rise, sit upon your left thigh.” (3) Moreover, “he used to keep his right foot upright” (4), and “he would turn its toes toward the qiblah.” (5)

(1) This wording is found in the hadith of Maymuna bint al-Harith: “When he sat, he rested on his left thigh.” It was already cited under the heading of *tajafi* (p. 748). (2) It belongs to the hadith of Abu Humayd al-Saidi, narrated in the presence of ten of the Prophet’s Companions. Al-Bayhaqi recorded it (2/118) and others as well; its chain was examined earlier under “Rukuʿ” (p. 605). The chapter also contains Aisha’s report: “He would spread his left foot flat and set his right foot upright.” The full text appeared previously under “Takbir” (pp. 176–177) and is listed in Irwa al-Ghalil, no. 316. (3) Reported by Ahmad and Abu Dawud with a good chain; its documentation has already been given on pp. 56–57. (4 & 5) From the hadith of Abdullah b. Umar: “Part of the sunnah of the prayer is to keep the right foot upright, point its toes toward the qibla, and sit upon the left.” Al-Nasai narrated it (1/173) through the chain of ʿAmr b. al-Harith → Yahya → al-Qasim → Abdullah (i.e., Abdullah b. Abdullah b. Umar) → his father; this chain is sound. Al-Bukhari and others also transmitted it, though without the clause on facing the toes toward the qibla, as will be noted under the final tashahhud (pp. 984–985).
