Asl Sifat Salat al-NabiNasir al-Din al-Albani

Abd al-Jabbar b. Wail b. Hujr narrated: “I was a young boy who did not yet understand the prayer. ‘Alqama b. Wail related it to me”—so reads Ibn Hazm’s version, and this is the correct form—“whereas the wording found in the Sunan, ‘Wail b. ‘Alqama,’ is a slip by one of the transmitters—[all] from my father, Wail b. Hujr.” This chain is authentic according to Muslim’s criterion. Ahmad also recorded it through Ash‘ath b. Sawwar, from Abd al-Jabbar b. Wail, from his father, with a similar wording: “He used to raise his hands whenever he pronounced the takbir, when he rose, and when he placed them between the two prostrations.” Its isnad would be hasan were it not for an interruption, as noted earlier under “The takbir when descending into sujud” (p. 708), where I have provided another route for it together with the remaining hadiths on this subject. There is likewise a report from Ibn Abbas. It was transmitted by Abu Dawud (1/118), al-Nasa’i (1/172)—whose version is quoted here—and, through him, by al-Dulabi in al-Kuna (1/198), and by Ibn Hazm (4/94), via the chain of al-Nadr b. Kathir Abu Sahl, who said: “Abd Allah b. Tawus prayed beside me at Mina in Masjid al-Khayf. Whenever he completed the first prostration and raised his head from it, he lifted his hands in front of his face. I found this unusual and said to Wahib b. Khalid, ‘This man is doing something I have never seen anyone do.’ Wahib said to him, ‘Are you doing something we have never seen anyone do?’ Abd Allah b. Tawus replied, ‘I saw my father do it, and he said, “I saw Ibn Abbas do it,” and Ibn Abbas said…’”
