It is recorded in this abridged wording by al-Darimi (1/319) and by Ahmad (3/179) through the route of Ishaq b. Abd Allah b. Abi Talhah from Anas. In the two Sahihs and elsewhere the report appears at greater length, and it will be cited below. Second: Another narration from Anas. He said: “A man from the Ansar—he was a large man—said, ‘I cannot manage to pray with you.’ He therefore prepared food for the Prophet, invited him to his house, spread out a woven mat (hasir) and sprinkled one end of it with water; the Prophet then prayed two rakʿahs on it. A man from the family of al-Jarud asked Anas, ‘Did the Prophet use to pray the duha prayer?’ He replied, ‘I never saw him perform it except on that day.’ ” This version is reported by al-Bukhari (2/125-126; 3/44-45), Abu Dawud (1/106), and Ahmad (3/130-131, 184, 291) through Shuʿbah → Anas b. Sirin, who said: “I heard Anas b. Malik relate it.” The same isnad appears in al-Tayalisi (no. 281) in an abridged form with the wording: “The Messenger of Allah prayed two rakʿahs on a hasir.” A further chain is found in al-Tabarani’s al-Saghir (p. 148) from Thabit, but without the words “two rakʿahs.” Third: Yet another report from Anas, to be mentioned later. Fourth: The narration of Abu Saʿid al-Khudri, who entered upon the Messenger of Allah and found him praying on a hasir upon which he prostrated.
