It is also reported by al-Bukhari (6/315, 359); Muslim (2/63); al-Nasai (1/112); Ibn Majah (1/254); al-Bayhaqi (2/433); al-Tayalisi (62); and Ahmad (5/150, 156, 157, 160, 166–167).
Among the corroborating chains is one from Ibn Abbas conveying the same meaning. Ahmad (1/250, 301) transmits it through Yazid ibn Abi Ziyad, from Miqsam, from him. A second line of transmission is given by al-Bayhaqi (2/433) through al-Suddi, from Ikrima, from Ibn Abbas. Considered together the two isnads are strong, and al-Hafiz classed the first of them as hasan.
There is likewise a report from Abu Musa with similar wording. Ahmad (4/416) records it via Israil, from Abu Ishaq, from Abu Burda, from him. This chain is sahih according to the criteria of al-Bukhari and Muslim, and al-Hafiz graded it hasan. Al-Shawkani (1/227) adds: “It is narrated by Ahmad and al-Tabarani with a good sanad.”
Another supporting narration comes from Abd Allah ibn Amr ibn al-As. Ahmad (2/222) relates it through Ibn al-Had, from Amr ibn Shuayb, from his father, from his grandfather, as a marfu report that includes the phrase: “Those before me used to hold this in great veneration….” This isnad is hasan, as al-Hafiz also noted.
Its purport is reinforced by the hadith of Ibn Abbas cited by al-Bayhaqi which states: “No prophet ever performed prayer until he reached his designated place of worship.”
