Asl Sifat Salat al-NabiNasir al-Din al-Albani

11- “O Allah! Place light in my heart, [and upon my tongue]; place light in my hearing and in my sight; place light beneath me and above me, on my right and on my left; place light before me and behind me, [and within my soul]; and amplify for me the light.”

(11) It is narrated from Abdullah ibn Abbas that he said: “I spent the night with my maternal aunt Maymuna bint al-Harith while the Messenger of Allah stayed with her. I saw him rise to relieve himself, go to the water-skin, loosen its strap, then perform wudu (ablution) exactly as he usually did. He then stood to pray, and in his prostration he was saying …” – the narrator mentions the supplication – “After that he lay down until he snored, and Bilal came and woke him for the prayer.” Al-Nasai (1/168) transmits it through his teacher Hannad ibn al-Sari, and Muslim (2/181) records it from the same Hannad and from Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah (the latter also includes it in his Musannaf, 12/112/1). Both chains read: “Abu al-Ahwas related to us, from Said ibn Masruq, from Salama ibn Kuhayl, from Abu Rushdin—namely, Kurayb—who reported it from Ibn Abbas.” Shu‘bah also follows Salama but was unsure and said: “He began saying in his prayer—or in his prostration—…” This version is found in Muslim (2/180-181), Abu Awana (2/312), al-Tayalisi (no. 353), and Ahmad (1/284). Sufyan al-Thawri likewise corroborated the report with the wording: “and he used to say in his supplication,” leaving the context unspecified. Al-Bukhari includes this in his Sahih (11/97, 99) and in al-Adab al-Mufrad (100); Muslim (2/178) and Ahmad (1/343) also record it. At the end he adds: “Kurayb said: ‘and seven (phrases) kept in the chest.’ I later met a man from the descendants of al-Abbas who taught me those seven.” Abu Awana (2/311) records the same chain but his version reads: “Kurayb said: ‘six,’” in place of “seven.”
