Asl Sifat Salat al-NabiNasir al-Din al-Albani

6- “O Allah, forgive me all of my sin—its minor and its major (1), its first and its last, its open and its hidden (2).”

7- “My very being and my very shadow have prostrated to You, my heart has believed in You; I acknowledge Your favor upon me. Here are my hands and whatever I have brought upon myself.” (*)

(6) It is the hadith of Abu Hurayrah: “The Messenger of Allah used to say while in prostration: …” – the narrator then cites the full wording. It is recorded by Muslim (2/50); Abu Awana (2/185–186); Abu Dawud (1/140); al-Tahawi (1/138); and al-Hakim (1/263). (1) Both terms are pronounced with a kasra on their first consonant, and they mean “its minor and its major forms.” The repetition of synonyms expands and intensifies the supplication even though some phrases could stand in place of others; this is how it is explained in Sharh Muslim. I add: the same observation will recur under “Supplication before the taslim,” God willing. (2) That is, “before anyone other than Allah”; otherwise, what is hidden and what is public are the same to Him, for He “knows the secret and what is still more concealed” – so al-Mirqat. The phrase conveys the same sense as the forthcoming petition: “Lord, forgive me what I have hidden and what I have publicized.” (7) It is the hadith of Abd Allah ibn Masud who said: “The Messenger of Allah used to say while in prostration: …” – the narrator then relates it in full. Al-Haythami cites it in Majmaʿ (2/128) and comments: “It is narrated by al-Bazzar, and its transmitters are trustworthy.” I add: Ibn Nasr also records it (no. 76), and al-Hakim (1/534–535) through the chain of Humayd … (*) The Shaykh noted in his personal copy of Sifat al-Salah (p. 146) that he had deleted this material, adding the remark you will see at the end of the documentation here (p. 765). We have therefore reproduced it here without boldface, as you see.
