Asl Sifat Salat al-NabiNasir al-Din al-Albani

so blessed is Allah, the best of creators. (1)

The first additional phrase is cited by al-Tahawi (1/137); by al-Tirmidhi, through the route of Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi al-Zinad; and by al-Daraqutni (p. 30) through Ibn Jurayj—both chains going back to Musa ibn Uqbah by the isnad mentioned earlier from Ali. The chain is sound. The same wording is also transmitted from Jabir and from Muhammad ibn Maslama with two authentic chains in al-Nasaʾi (1/169), and from Abu Hurayrah in the Musnad of al-Shafiʿi (p. 14). The second additional phrase appears in Muslim’s version (as well as in that of Abu ʿAwana), and is likewise reported by al-Daraqutni and al-Bayhaqi; it is also the wording found in Abu Dawud, al-Tayalisi, Ahmad, and Ibn Nasr (no. 76). The third additional phrase is found in one transmission of al-Tirmidhi, and is likewise recorded by al-Bayhaqi (2/109) and by Ahmad. Notice: In this latter transmission al-Bayhaqi inserts, after the words “and to You I submit,” the phrase “and upon You I rely.” This is an anomalous addition; I have not located it in any of the primary sources. (1) That is, “the most accomplished of craftsmen.” In Arabic one may say of someone who makes a thing: khalaqahu (“he fashioned it”). The poet said: You cut what you have fashioned, while Some people fashion yet never cut. Al-Qurtubi remarks in his Tafsir (12/110): “Some have denied applying this term to human beings, insisting that creation belongs exclusively to Allah. Ibn Jurayj responded that the Qurʾanic phrase aḥsanu al-khaliqin (‘the best of creators’) is used because Allah granted Jesus, peace be upon him, permission to create. Others wavered on the matter. The term may indeed be used for humans in the sense of ‘crafting’ or ‘manufacturing’; what is denied is its use for bringing something into existence out of nothing.”
