Asl Sifat Salat al-NabiNasir al-Din al-Albani

“When the worshipper prostrates, seven body parts (1) prostrate with him: his face, his two hands, his two knees, and his two feet.” (2)

(2) It was also reported by Ibn Majah (1/288), as well as by Muslim, al-Nasai, and al-Bayhaqi through the route of Sufyan ibn Uyayna from Ibn Tawus with similar wording. All of them—except Muslim—added: Sufyan said, “Ibn Tawus told us,” then he placed his hand on his forehead and passed it over his nose, saying, “These two count as one.” This is the wording preserved by al-Nasai; the other two state: “My father used to count these as one.” Ibn Jurayj likewise narrated it from Ibn Tawus, omitting that comment and simply saying, “the forehead and the nose.” This version is found in Muslim, Abu Awana (2/73, 182), al-Bayhaqi, and al-Nasai (1/665); it was also transmitted by Amr ibn Dinar from Tawus. Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Kabir (no. 10861) through the two Hammads from him. Al-Bukhari (2/235–236) and Muslim—this alternate wording is Muslim’s—also narrated it without mentioning the nose. An abridged form, omitting the enumeration of limbs, appears in Abu Dawud (1/142), al-Tirmidhi (2/62, who declared it sahih), al-Nasai (1/167), al-Darimi, Ibn Majah, al-Tahawi (1/150), al-Tayalisi (340), Ahmad (1/221, 270, 279, 286, 324), and al-Tabarani (no. 10862). This is one of the narrations found in al-Bukhari, Muslim, and Abu Awana (2/182); another chain belongs to al-Bukhari and likewise to al-Tabarani (no. 10857). Al-Tabarani also has a further path (no. 11180) through Layth (*) from Abu al-Zubayr, from Ubayd ibn Umayr, from him. (It is cited in Irwa al-Ghalil, no. 310.) (1) I.e. “limbs,” the plural of irb, pronounced with a kasra on the hamza and sukun on the ra. (2) This forms part of the hadith of al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib. (*) Thus in the base manuscript; the correct name is Hafs ibn Ghiyath. Allah knows best.
