(1) Reported by al-Bara ibn Azib: “The Messenger of Allah would prostrate upon the pads of his palms.” Al-Hakim recorded it (1/227); al-Bayhaqi (2/107) cited it from him; and Ahmad (4/295) transmitted it through the chain: Husayn ibn Waqid → Abu Ishaq ʿAmr ibn ʿAbd Allah al-Sabiʿi, who said, “I heard al-Bara say …,” and then related the hadith. Al-Hakim judged it “sound according to the criteria of the two shaykhs,” a verdict followed by al-Dhahabi. In fact, it meets only Muslim’s criteria, for al-Bukhari quotes Husayn ibn Waqid only in a suspended (muʿallaq) form. The hadith is also found in Abu Dawud (1/143), al-Nasaʾi (1/166), al-Bayhaqi (2/115), and Ahmad (4/303) through the route Sharik → Abu Ishaq → al-Bara, describing the prostration as follows: “He spread out his palms, raised his buttocks, and bent his back, saying, ‘This is how the Prophet performed sujud’.” Abu Dawud and al-Bayhaqi add: “and he rested on his knees.” Its chain is hasan, as al-Nawawi stated (3/435–436), adding: “It was also narrated by Abu Hatim.” (2) Reported by Waʾil ibn Hujr: “When the Prophet performed sujud he would keep his fingers together.” Narrated by Ibn Khuzayma (1/324/642), al-Hakim (1/227), and al-Bayhaqi (2/112) through the chain: al-Harith ibn ʿAbd Allah ibn Ismail ibn ʿUqba al-Khazin → Hushaym → ʿAsim ibn Kulayb → ʿAlqama ibn Waʾil ibn Hujr → his father.
