al-Tahawi recorded it (1/150) with the chain: Ibn Abi Dawud → Yusuf b. ‘Adi → Ibn Fudayl → ‘Abd Allah b. Sa‘id → his grandfather → him. This isnad is extremely weak. Al-Hazimi (p. 54) says: “ ‘Abd Allah b. Sa‘id al-Maqburi is weak in hadith according to the leading critics.” Al-Taqrib adds: “abandoned.” One sign of his unreliability is that he wavered in reporting this very narration: once he related it as the Prophet’s action, and another time as the Prophet’s verbal order—as will appear in the next hadith. Fourth hadith: Sa‘d b. Abi Waqqas said, “We used to place the hands before the knees, then we were commanded to put the knees before the hands.” Al-Hazimi transmitted it through the chain of Ibrahim b. Isma‘il b. Yahya b. Salama b. Kuhayl → his father → his father → Salama → Mus‘ab b. Sa‘d → Sa‘d. Ibn Khuzaymah likewise recorded it in his Sahih, as cited in Zad (1/80). This isnad is extremely weak, being a continuous series of unreliable transmitters. Ibn al-Qayyim declared it defective on account of Yahya b. Salama, saying, “He is not someone whose narration can be relied upon,” and he quoted the verdicts of the imams about him. Al-Taqrib labels him: “abandoned.” Ibn Hajar, in Fath (2/231), criticised it because of Ibrahim and his father Isma‘il, remarking, “Both are weak.” Al-Hazimi added: “Its chain is questionable; were it sound it would indicate abrogation, but what is reliably preserved from…"
