Asl Sifat Salat al-NabiNasir al-Din al-Albani

“Sharik never narrated from ʿAsim anything other than this ḥadīth.” Sharik is considered poor in memorization by the majority of ḥadīth critics, and some even state that he became confused (ikhtalaṭ). For that reason his solitary reports are not used as evidence—especially when they conflict with what reliable, precise transmitters have reported. Indeed, several of those trustworthy narrators transmitted from ʿAsim, with this very chain from Wāʾil, a description of the Prophet’s prayer, yet none of them mention the point introduced by Sharik. The reports from ʿAsim on this matter were cited earlier under “placing the right hand over the left.” In addition, the same material was transmitted by someone else from ʿAsim, from his father, from the Prophet—peace be upon him—as a mursal report that does not name Wāʾil. It was recorded by Abū Dāwūd, al-Ṭaḥāwī, and al-Bayhaqī through Shaqīq Abū Layth, who said, “ʿĀṣim related it to me.” Shaqīq, however, is an unknown narrator, as al-Dhahabī and others state. Another defective route appears in Abū Dāwūd (1/118, 134) and likewise in al-Bayhaqī, from ʿAbd al-Jabbār b. Wāʾil, from his father, in marfūʿ form with the same meaning—the wording will be quoted under “Standing up for the second rakʿah” (p. 819). This chain is broken between ʿAbd al-Jabbār and his father, for he never heard from him, as noted earlier. Second ḥadīth: Anas reported, “I saw the Messenger of Allah—peace be upon him—descend while pronouncing the takbīr; his knees touched the ground before his hands.” It was related by al-Dāraqutnī (132); al-Ḥākim (1/226) and, through him, al-Bayhaqī (2/99); al-Ḥāzimī (55); Ibn Ḥazm (4/129); and al-Ḍiyāʾ al-Maqdisī in al-Mukhtāra, all of them through the chain: al-ʿAlāʾ b. Ismāʿīl al-ʿAṭṭār → Ḥafṣ b. Ghiyāth → ʿĀṣim al-Aḥwal → Anas. Al-Dāraqutnī and al-Bayhaqī observed, “Al-ʿAlāʾ b. Ismāʿīl is alone in transmitting it.”
