Asl Sifat Salat al-NabiNasir al-Din al-Albani

…

As for al-ʿUmari, although his memory was weak, the corroboration of other transmitters strengthens his report. His narration has already been cited under “raising the hands at bowing” (p. 604). Furthermore, the righteous early generations actually practiced these ḥadiths, contrary to what many people imagine. Some late scholars even denied the practice outright—among them Shaykh Anwar al-Kashmiri in Fayd al-Bari (2/254). Before him, Abu Jaʿfar al-Tahawi had claimed a consensus that the hands are not raised between the two prostrations; al-Hafiz Ibn Ḥajar refuted him, as did others, as will be detailed later. The following reports from the Salaf substantiate the practice: 1. Abu Salamah al-Aʿraj said: “I met the people—all of them—raising their hands at every lowering and rising.” Narrated by Ibn ʿAsakir and cited in al-Talkhis (3/272), with no critical remark. 2. Al-Bukhari records in Rafʿ al-Yadayn (no. 24) that Hudhayl ibn Sulayman Abu ʿIsa said: I asked al-Awzaʿi, “Abu ʿAmr, what is your view on raising the hands with every takbir while standing in prayer?” He replied, “That is the original practice.” He also cites (p. 18) the statement of ʿIkrimah ibn ʿAmmar: “I saw al-Qasim, Tawus, Makhul, ʿAbd Allah ibn Dinar, and Salim raising their hands when they began the prayer, at bowing, and at prostration.” Wakiʿ likewise reports from al-Rabiʿ: “I saw al-Hasan, Mujahid, ʿAtaʾ, Tawus, Qays ibn Saʿd, and al-Hasan ibn Muslim raising their hands when they bowed and when they prostrated.” ʿAbd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi concluded, “This is part of the sunnah.”
