through ʿAbd al-Wahhab it runs: “He used to raise his hands in bowing and in prostration.” This wording is broader than the previous one, for it covers raising the hands both when going into prostration and when rising from it.
4) The ḥadith of ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿUmar: the Prophet ﷺ would raise his hands at the takbir for bowing and at the takbir when he went down to prostrate.
Al-Haythami comments: “It was narrated by al-Tabarani in al-Awsat, and its chain is sound.”
I add: Ibn Ḥazm (4/93) also recorded it, through ʿAbd al-Wahhab al-Thaqafi, from ʿUbayd Allah, from Nafiʿ, from Ibn ʿUmar, that Ibn ʿUmar used to raise his hands when he entered the prayer, when he bowed, when he said Samiʿa Allahu liman ḥamidah, when he prostrated, and between the two rakʿahs, lifting them to the level of his chest.
This isnad is sound and free of any hidden defect—contrary to Ibn Ḥazm’s assertion. Although technically mawqūf, it carries the force of a marfūʿ report, for Ibn ʿUmar himself once transmitted that the Prophet ﷺ did not raise his hands in prostration, as mentioned earlier under “the takbir.” Had Ibn ʿUmar not learned, through other Companions, that the Prophet ﷺ did raise his hands at these points, he would not have reversed his stance and acted upon it. The matter is clear and needs no further comment. Praise be to Allah.
This is further corroborated by the narration of ʿAbd Allah al-ʿUmari, who reported it from Nafiʿ, from Ibn ʿUmar, in marfūʿ form: “when he bowed and when he prostrated.”
