At other times, he would add:
8- “The fullness of the heavens, the fullness of the earth, and the fullness of whatever else You will beyond that,”
(8) It is the narration of Abu Saʿid al-Khudri who said: Whenever the Messenger of Allah ﷺ raised his head after bowing, he would say: “Rabbana! laka al-hamd, mil’a al-samawat …,” and so forth.
It was recorded by al-Darimi (1/301), and from him by Muslim (2/47), Abu ʿAwana (2/176), al-Bayhaqi (2/94), Abu Dawud (1/135), al-Nasaʾi (1/163), al-Tahawi (1/141), Ibn Nasr (77), al-Bayhaqi again, and Ahmad (3/87). All of them—save Ibn Nasr—transmit the report through Saʿid ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAziz, from ʿAtiyya ibn Qays, from Qazaʿa, from Abu Saʿid. Ibn Nasr, however, relates it from Suwayd ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAziz, who informed him from Burayd ibn Abi Maryam, from Qazaʿa, with the same wording.
The two additional phrases are found in the versions of al-Darimi, Muslim, and Ibn Nasr; one of them also appears in Abu Dawud and Abu ʿAwana.
The hadith has a corroborating report transmitted by Sharik from Abu ʿUmar—namely al-Manbahi—who said: I heard Abu Juhaifa say:
Good fortune (judud) was mentioned before the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was praying. One man said, “So-and-so’s fortune is in horses,” another, “So-and-so’s fortune is in camels,” another, “So-and-so’s fortune is in sheep,” and another, “So-and-so’s fortune is in slaves.” When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ finished his prayer and raised his head from the last rakʿa, he said:
“Allahumma Rabbana! laka al-hamd …,” and so on, omitting the words “Ahl al-thana” up to “wa kulluna laka ʿabd.” He then added:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ lengthened his voice at the word jadd (fortune) to teach them that it is not as they imagined.
