Asl Sifat Salat al-NabiNasir al-Din al-Albani

or at other times he may add:

7- “You are(1) the One deserving all praise and glory; no one can withhold(2) what You grant, and no one can grant(2) what You withhold, and the fortune of the fortunate(3) will not benefit him against You.”

“Pray exactly as you have seen me pray,” and his statement, “The imam has only been appointed so that he be followed.” The narration cited earlier from al-Marwazi also reads: “If he wishes he may say: Allahumma Rabbana wa laka al-hamd.” This is how it appears in the Zahiri manuscript, yet I suspect that the conjunction wa is an interpolation. Abu Dawud states in his Masail (34): “I asked Ahmad: when he says ‘Allahumma!’, does he also pronounce—the wa in ‘Rabbana wa laka al-hamd’? He replied, ‘No.’” This is an explicit text showing that he did not approve combining Allahumma with the conjunction wa. Ibn al-Qayyim’s objection is probably based on this, but we have already answered it and cited the reports that permit combining the two. 7 – This refers to the hadith of Ibn Abbas transmitted by Muslim, Abu Awana, and al-Bayhaqi, mentioned just above. (1) The phrase appears in the accusative as a construction of specification and praise—understood as “O People of praise!”—or it may be read in the nominative, “You are the People of praise.” Al-majd means greatness and the pinnacle of honor. (2) The particle ma here is all-inclusive, covering rational and non-rational beings alike, as al-Sindi notes. (3) The correct, well-known vocalisation is with fat-ha, as al-Nawawi states. Al-jadd denotes fortune, affluence, greatness, and authority: the one who enjoys worldly fortune of wealth, offspring, grandeur, or power will find that none of it benefits him before You; only righteous deeds avail him, as in the verse: “Wealth and children are but adornment of worldly life, whereas enduring righteous deeds are better with your Lord” (Quran 18:46).
