Asl Sifat Salat al-NabiNasir al-Din al-Albani

May Allah listen to you. (1) For Allah—exalted is He—has proclaimed through the tongue of His Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): “Allah hears those who praise Him.” (2)

It has a corroborating narration reported by Saʿid ibn al-Musayyib from Abu Saʿid al-Khudri. Ibn Majah records it (1/286), and its chain is hasan (sound). Al-Bayhaqi and Ahmad also transmit it with the wording: “Allahumma Rabbana, laka al-hamd” (O our Lord, to You be praise), without the prefatory wa; this version was cited earlier under Takbir. Al-Hakim and al-Bayhaqi, through another route from Saʿid, give the wording: “Rabbana, wa laka al-hamd” (Our Lord, and to You be praise); that chain is sahih (authentic), as noted above. The additional wording is likewise confirmed in a narration from Abu Musa al-Ashʿari, to be mentioned shortly. (1) I.e., your supplication will be answered. (2) This wording occurs in the hadith of Abu Musa al-Ashʿari: “When the imam says, ‘Samiʿa Allahu liman hamidah’ (Allah hears the one who praises Him), then say, ‘Allahumma Rabbana, laka al-hamd’; Allah will answer you …” The complete text and its documentation were given earlier under Amin (p. 387). In another report related by al-Nasai (1/162) and al-Tahawi (1/140) the wording is: “Allahumma Rabbana, wa laka al-hamd,” with the extra wa; the same form appears in one of the forthcoming narrations of Abu Hurayrah.
